Build Your Self Esteem With These Three Activities

By Crystal Powers

You can engage in several practices and exercises that, over time, will help you increase your sense of self worth. This is definitely something important you should do on your quest to become happier and to raise your sense of self worth. So let's take these building self esteem activities one by one.

Make a list of your good traits.

You should begin by writing down everything you think is good about yourself. It doesn't matter if they are things you like about yourself, or only things other people like about you. You can list virtually anything, from your looks to something attractive in your personality, or even something you successfully accomplished.

Your goal should be to write a list of about 100 items. Time is of no essence, but it is important to add something every day. You should continue for about a week. And, when you have all your 100 items, make sure you continue adding one every day.

This is a great way to increase your appreciation of your own positive qualities. After looking at that list for a while you will realize that how much you are actually worth.

Reach out to others.

Anyone who takes an active role in helping others usually acquires a positive image of themselves. Helping somebody out can have a big effect on your feelings of self worth.

Granted, it is also important that you don't overdo it and end up always putting yourself in second place. Always putting yourself at the bottom of the list is only going to validate your low self worth. Even if you are choosing to help, you are doing so of your own accord, not because it is something imposed on you. That way you always stay in control of what you do.

Surround yourself with positive thinkers

Many people who are looking for ways to raise their self esteem have likely suffered from a feeling of low self worth for a long time. unbeknownst to them, they have set the lives up in such a way that is most conducive to self sabotage.

Take a look at the people you usually surround yourself with. Are those people always ready to point fingers, judge and criticize? Those people are just confirming your negative feelings about yourself.

Or, are your friends always putting themselves down? Though you might momentarily feel better because of it, it will actually hurt you more than help you in the long run.

Either way, it's time to look for some truly positive people to add into your life. Amazingly, once you start looking, you will realize there are already many positive people around you. Unfortunately, you haven't taken the time to notice them until now. All considered, this is probably one of the most constructive things you can do for yourself.
