Why Some People Are Scared Of Driving

By Sharon Gilmore

It is not a very easy job to say with confidence as to why some people develop fear of driving. Each person is different, and situations also vary.

However, there are some elements that apply to almost each one affected. Getting to the roots of this phobia can be possible by focusing on these elements.

Mostly, a car accident is to be blamed. Accidents are usually the reason why some people might give up driving all together. Accidents always leave a negative impact. It is usually disturbing for passengers and drivers of the vehicles.

As far as phobia of driving is concerned, both guilty and affected parties are at risk. For the victims, their minds turn into their enemies as the experience gets repeated in their heads time and time again. They become afraid that they might face the same situation if they get into the driving seats.

People, who are responsible for those unfortunate events, are afraid that they might repeat the same mistake, and put others' lives in jeopardy.

The vehicles become a reminder of the traumatic events. They are constantly being reminded of what went wrong on the accident's day. Therefore, when they drive again, they under go tremendous anxiety, which can even end in a severe panic attack. Therefore, they start to shudder even at the thought of driving fearing that the same fate may befall them again.

The affected need not be drivers only. Passengers of the car that underwent accident can develop a phobia of driving as well. Same applies to pedestrians, who end up becoming a victim of hit and run incident.

These events cause these people to abandon the idea of learning how to drive totally. They are afraid of the same thing happening again, which is not a very rational fear.
