By Alethia Krips

There are several streams of engineering available for anyone to study and specialize. From mechanical, civil, automobile, chemical and electrical engineering we have several new streams in IT, Petroleum, etc. Most jobs are intra disciplinary in nature when it comes to practical job functions. Thus a mechanical engineer will work on designing machines but in tandem with electrical and IT engineer etc.

Mechanical engineers can further specialize in any other related field like automotive, aerospace or even in instrumentation etc.

Mechanical engineering is for those who have an aptitude for mathematics as well as physics. More over they should have a conceptual understanding and aptitude for abstract reasoning and concepts.

The job can involve quite a lot of physical work needing the engineer to be bending, stretching and being on his feet all the time.

After graduating with a four year course and getting a bachelor's degree in engineering, you are certified to work as an engineer. You can also pursue masters in engineering and this can help you with your career.

Today engineers do not need to take leave form their work to pursue further education. They can easily take up online courses to pursue further education. These courses can be pursued in their free time and at their own pace without having to disturb your schedule at all. Check out the universities that are offering online degrees and courses that are of interest to you.

As a fresh engineer out of college you always start off as a junior engineer working under a senior engineer because you are fresh out of college. Down the line after a year of experience depending upon your attitude and performance you will be able to move up the line to become a supervisor or a team leader and so on.

When you pass out as an engineer fresh from the college, you have no work experience. Hence you always start off as junior engineer assistance under a senior manager. You gain sufficient experience and exposure in the months to follow and after one year you have chances of being moved up as supervisor or team leader depending upon your performance.
