Online Guitar Lessons Or Private Ones

By Jack Wogan

Choosing between online guitar lessons and private ones is not very difficult to do if you know exactly what you want. It all depends on how much money you want to invest, how much time you have for the lessons, whether you like working alone or under the guidance of a teacher and if you think that the traditional methods suit you better than the modern ones. There is of course a third option to learn how to play the guitar, which is going to a music school. This is suitable mostly for young students who want to make a career out of this activity.

Without any further ado, here are four of the most important criteria to help us make the best decision:
1. Money. Whenever we consider starting a new activity like learning to play the guitar, we think about the costs. Hiring a private tutor for private guitar lessons can be quite expensive. The lessons are worth the money especially if the teacher is a good one with lots of experience. But what do you do if you do not want to spend so much money or simply cannot afford the price? The online guitar lessons are perfect alternative in this case. They are most of the times free or cost very little.

2. Time. It is a fact that naturally talented people learn easier how to play the guitar no matter if they do it online or with a private tutor. Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages if time is considered. For example private lessons have to take place on a schedule set in advance. This can be a downside for busy people, but on the end a teacher who pushes you to learn more everyday can come in handy. Online lessons are more suitable for those who cannot attend classes on a regular basis. On the other hand it takes more self-control to progress without anyone monitoring your activity.

Besides reminding you how willing you were to learn in the beginning, a teacher can also help you find your own learning style. He can guide you throughout the whole process until you reach your goal. Online lessons are also designed by professionals in the music industry which is why they are very effective too. However, in the case of online lessons it is more up to the student to find his own learning style.

Both private guitar lessons and online ones can be very useful sources of information. A beginner will always need to know what accessories to purchase, if a fender guitar is better than a cort one for example and which one is more suitable for him. A teacher can tell that to the student from his experiences, while the online lessons can provide him with all the advantages and disadvantages of for example each type of guitar.

No one can say that online guitar lessons are better than private ones or the other way around. The truth is that it depends mostly on the student to decide.
